Andromeda
All About Andromeda
The Systems Commonwealth is the "greatest civilization in history," a union of many planets and peoples - until it falls. The Nietzcheans, formerly allies of the Commonwealth, begin a war. In one early battle of the war, Captain Dylan Hunt and his starship, the sentient Andromeda Ascendant, are trapped on the event horizon of a black hole - frozen in time, in the distortion caused by the heavy gravity fields of the black hole.
Meanwhile, 300 years later, the crew of the Eureka Maru, led by Captain Beka Valentine, are hired to "salvage" the ship. They successfully pull the Andromeda from the edges of the event horizon, bringing it back into normal space and time. The salvage operation hits a snag, however, because Dylan has been unfrozen, and is not willing to let his ship go without a fight.
Gerantex has that angle covered…and reveals that his "cargo" had actually been a group of mercenaries, led by Nietzcheans Tyr Anasazi, who will take the ship by force. When the Maru's crew begins to have second thoughts about stealing the Andromeda, Trance Gemini is killed as an example of what would happen to defectors.
When the mercenaries are unable to take the ship, Gerantex has it pushed back into the black hole, and escapes on the Maru. Trapped on a ship heading for certain destruction, the enemies must work together to save themselves.
Afterwards, they go after Gerantex, get the Maru back, leaving him with nothing. But Dylan has a ship without a crew, and Beka has a crew in need of a mission. He persuades them all (even mercenary Tyr) to stay on the ship and help him with his goal - to rebuild the Commonwealth, one world at a time.
