Full Tracy-centric Summary

On "The Jerry Show," people are talking about their supernatural lovers. One guest, Maggie Dwyer, announces to the audience (including Tracy) that her boyfriend is a vampire. Tracy begins thinking about her vampire "boyfriend." In the morgue, Natalie has "The Jerry Show" on the television, and also begins to think about her relationship with the vampire in her life. Later, Maggie is brutally murdered.

Tracy and Nick head over to the studio to investigate a possible connection to Maggie's murder. There they meet Jerry Tate, the show's star, and producer Charly Hawkes. Both claim not to have any information about the murder. They do, however, want Tracy to appear in a show on women in dangerous, traditionally male jobs. Tracy refuses. Ignoring her objections, Jerry and Charly say they'll arrange for her to do the show. Nick says they need to get to the morgue, but Tracy declines, saying she needs to meet a "plumber" at her apartment.

Her "plumber" is none other than Vachon, who meets her at a coffee house. She's ostensibly looking for information on how she could tell if the killer is a vampire. What Tracy really wants is to talk about her relationship with Vachon, or if they actually have a "relationship." Tracy can't come right out and discuss it, however, and Vachon is deliberately dense about the subject. As Tracy leaves, he remembers the "good old days" when relationships weren't that complicated.

Tracy joins the stakeout across the street from Maggie's apartment, watching for the appearance of her supposed vampire boyfriend. Lights from Maggie's lead Tracy to investigate -- alone. The stakeout detectives call Nick, who is interrupted while arguing with Natalie about their lack of a relationship. Nick flies over to save Tracy from the potential vampire, but he's not alone. Vachon, worried about what would happen if Maggie's killer is a vampire and Tracy finds out, has been following her. Nick and Vachon pounce on the intruder, bookish George Upton, who is decidedly *not* a vampire.

Tracy wonders about how to explain Vachon's presence to Nick, who good-naturedly teases Tracy about Vachon and about her "plumber" (who Nick knows is Vachon). They question the philandering Upton and decide he's not the killer. Still, the only lead they have is the "Jerry Show." Nick tells Reese about Jerry's offer to put Tracy on the show, and Reese agrees it's the perfect way to get more information on the show.

Tracy has her background interview with Jerry and Charly. She was ninth in her class and spent five years in uniform before making detective. She reluctantly agrees to stage a meeting with an "informant" (ie, Vachon), but balks at the idea of their makeover. "They'll put me in this tight spandex dress, cut up to here. And then neckline somewhere down around my waist. Four-inch spikes. Leather. Babe-cop," she grouses to Vachon, who looks very interested at the idea of Babe-Cop Tracy. Vachon agrees to play her "informant," and they agree to tape a scene on a street corner. Meanwhile, Dr. Joyce, another "Jerry Show" guest is also murdered. While at the crime scene, Tracy notices the tension between Nick and Nat. She tries to talk it over with Nat, but the coroner doesn't feel like discussing the subject.

Despite the second "Jerry Show" murder, Tracy and Vachon film their scene on the street. Someone takes a shot at Tracy but gets away. Upon reviewing the footage of the attack on Tracy, Nick notices that the attacker was keeping his face concealed from the camera, which was supposedly hidden from view. Suspecting that the killer must be someone associated with the show, Tracy and Nick search the studio. There, Tracy is taken hostage by the killer -- Charly Hawkes, who was jealous of the other women (Maggie and Dr. Joyce) Jerry was sleeping with. Clearly crazed, Charly ends up shooting Jerry before Nick subdues her.

Afterwards, Tracy goes on the "new and improved" version of "The Jerry Show," which Nick and Nat watch as they make up.

Review
A wonderful episode, not only for Tracy, but for all the other characters as well. Maggie Dwyer's story gives Tracy a framework to analyze her relationship with Vachon, and she finds out that it may not even be enough to be called a "relationship." Relationship difficulties is the bond that brings Tracy and Nat together in conversation, but Tracy doesn't realize just how much the two of them actually have in common. Would have been nice if Tracy and Nat had been able to do more bonding. Plus, the story is entertaining -- Tracy's "Jerry Show" appearance (including her babe-cop makeover) is funny.
