Full Tracy-centric Summary
In a back alley, Tracy is chasing a suspect. He's armed and dangerous, and shoots at her.
He misses. She shoots back, and hits him, killing him. Tracy is stunned; this is the first
time she's ever killed anyone. She tries to go on with her job, business-as-usual, but she
gets sick at a crime scene, and has to go home.
At the precinct, Captain Reese gives Tracy three days off because of the shooting. Though he
insists otherwise, Tracy takes it as a suspension. She's upset, and determined to prove she
can hack it in homicide. She overhears Nick and Reese talking about the victim. While Nick
goes to investigate a shady escort service, Tracy prepares to go undercover.
Saying she worked at an escort service in Vancouver, Tracy easily slips undercover at the agency.
She hasn't found out any information on the murder, however, by the time she's sent on her first
"date."
She meets a rich young man at the Raven, where they are observed by Vachon and Urs. Tracy's
date obviously isn't the killer, he's just looking for a pretty girl to have on his arm, a trophy
girl. Vachon, not realizing she's "undercover," introduces himself to her date, and tells him
to "get lost." He immediately complies, and drives off in the limo -- without Tracy. Furious
at Vachon ruining her plans, she lashes out at him before storming off. But before she can leave,
she has to fix a flat tire. A well-dressed gentleman offers to help Tracy change the tire, but
that's not really what he's after. He stabs her with a needle he concealed under his jacket, and
takes her away.
Tracy awakens, groggy and disoriented, to find the stranger stroking her head with another
woman's severed hand. She realizes she's been kidnapped by the killer. He takes her badge and
empties the bullets out of her gun. Tracy unties her feet and gets her gun, gratefully realizing
one bullet is left in the chamber. She tries to escape, but the killer catches her. She's
rescued by Nick, but when the killer gets up from where Nick knocked him out, she
has to shoot the killer to keep him from "killing" Nick and herself.
Review
Early in the season, Tracy was over-eager to prove herself, to show that she was a good cop and
could be judged on her own merits. Here, she feels she needs to demonstrate that she can "hack
it" in homicide, so she investigates the murder on her own.
This episode demonstrates both Tracy's strengths and her weaknesses. She's impulsive, and
doesn't really understand the danger that she could be getting herself into until it's too late.
At the same time, she manages to nearly escape the killer, before shooting him to save both
herself and her partner. This episode also advances the relationship between Tracy and Vachon.
He's very jealous when he sees her with another man, and even runs off her date. But she clearly
demonstrates that she doesn't want anyone watching out for her and walks away from him. Overall,
a very good episode.
