Her mother, Barbara Vetter is divorced from her father. Tracy is not close to her alcoholic mother, and they frequently fight, mainly over Tracy's career (which her mother sees as chosen by her father) and her relationship to her philandering father.
Tracy is dedicated to her job. She resents the fact that her father's position may be even partly responsible for her own success and constantly strives to prove worth as a cop and as a person. She has an insatiable curiosity, which leads her to explore an abandoned church in search of a mysterious crash victim ("Black Buddha I") and secretly go undercover in a shady escort service to catch a killer ("Trophy Girl"). While she's frequently thought of as "perky," she also has a tough, agressive side. Case in point is "Avenging Angel," where she tracks down an abusive husband suspected of murdering his wife: Tracy tackles him, then tells him to give her a reason to pull the trigger. In the end, her bravery and desire to prove herself send her after Delbert Dawkins, a killer loose in the police station. It's her fatal mistake -- as he kills her, leaving a trail of blood behind as her body slides down the wall.
In her personal life, well, Tracy doesn't have much of one. She doesn't have many friends. She and Jody Fraser were friends in college, but they drifted apart because Tracy didn't know how to deal with Jody's multiple sclerosis. Bruce Spencer was a friend of Tracy's family, but he turned out to be a renegade cop with a penchant for violence.
Romantically, Tracy and Natalie are running neck-and-neck in the "I Dated a Serial Killer" contest. She dated reporter Gordon Fuller once -- no sparks there. She met "Gary Reynolds" outside a coffee shop and thought he would be a nice, normal date. Unfortunately, he turned out to be the serial bomber known as "Vudu," who held her hostage prior to being eaten by Vachon. Which brings us to her relationship with Javier Vachon.
Tracy's acquaintance with Vachon begins when she spots his "dead" body moving at the plane crash site where he "died." From there on, their relationship was rocky. He was her friend, informant, and possibly more. They had hints of a romantic relationship, but nothing really developed before Vachon was killed by Divia, leaving Tracy sobbing over his body.
